Gavin Riley (Director):
He is a former member of the South African Police VIP Protection Unit with 30 years of experience in the security field. He started his career in the SAPS in the then Special Guard Unit and was tasked with the security of the President and cabinet Ministers at their residences. Here he was the commander of the reaction team for many years having the responsibility to deal with the planning of special events all the way through to dealing with the accreditation system at this unit.
From here he moved onto the VIP Operations section where he was the section head. Here was responsible for the planning and execution of many State visits by foreign Presidents to our country (in excess of 70 such visits) and many government lead conferences. The State visits include those by President’s Clinton, Bush, Putin and many others. He was part of the “Core Command Group” who where tasked with the planning of major events such as Presidential Inaugurations, NAM Summit, CHOGM, WCAR, AU South Africa, WSSD, G20 Summit and many others. He also was sent to Mozambique to consult with their security services with regard to the AU in Mozambique.
He also represented SAPS on many of the World Cup soccer meetings for the City of Cape Town during the planning phase. He was also involved with training and development, implementing and managing various specialised teams. Subsequent to leaving the SAPS he has been concentrating on events and conferences with regard to the safety, security and logistics aspects. Significantly here he was invited to form part of the committee responsible for finalising the events bylaws in the City of Cape Town. He has been instrumental in the Cape Town International Jazz Festival (the 4th biggest Jazz festival in the world) as well as events in Angola and Mozambique. He thus has a wide range of skills from close protection, planning, consulting, technical advisory, logistics and management of all these projects.
Thereafter he joined TSU Protection Services as the operations manager of the office in Cape Town. Here he managed all the executive protection, executive support and business development in the region. He steadily grew the business in the area to become a well respected and profitable entity in the region.
He also managed all the operations of TSU International building the entity out of the ground. The International operations also became a self sustaining entity with operations in 20 African countries servicing clients from America and Europe who have operations in various regions in Africa. These clients included Barclays, Bloomberg, Goldman Sachs and various other large corporate clients.
In 2014 he joined IES International with the purpose of building his own brand and entity. He has maintained the same network in Africa and can offer the same services throughout the identified growth regions of East and West Africa. The network has now been extended into the entire sub-Saharan Africa.
